The Children's Place Garden
A Place to Grow—Inside and Out
At The Children’s Place, our fully edible garden is more than just a beautiful green space—it’s a living classroom where children dig into hands-on learning, literally.
From planting tiny seeds to harvesting juicy tomatoes or fragrant herbs, our students are active participants in every step of the gardening process. They learn how to care for living things, observe the changes of the seasons, and experience the satisfaction that comes from nurturing something over time.
Whether they’re watering the lettuce, gently checking on seedlings, or snacking on fresh strawberries they picked themselves, children discover that nature is both teacher and reward.
🌱 Why Gardening Matters
Gardening offers a rich blend of lessons and life skills for children of all ages:
-
Science in Action: Kids explore cause and effect, weather patterns, life cycles, and the role of pollinators and soil health—all through hands-on discovery.
-
Healthy Habits: Children are far more likely to try (and enjoy!) vegetables and herbs they’ve helped grow themselves.
-
Fine & Gross Motor Skills: Digging, scooping, watering, and pruning all support physical development in age-appropriate ways.
-
Patience & Responsibility: Caring for a garden teaches that growth takes time, consistency, and care.
-
Emotional Growth: Time in nature supports emotional regulation, mindfulness, and a deep sense of calm and accomplishment.
Our edible garden is designed with young children in mind: safe, accessible, and full of sensory opportunities. It’s also a community space—where students snack, observe, explore, and connect with one another and the world around them.
